GOX-AGXX-Filter

GOX-AGXX-Filter - Analyse des antimikrobiellen Mechanismus von GOX-AGXX

The collaborative project “GOX-AGXX” among Largentec GmbH, Diamond Inventics, Free University Berlin and Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT), aims to develop a universal filter mechanism to diminish the microbial load in liquids and gases. The filter to be developed will be a depth filter consisting of two components, component 1, i.e. functionalized graphene oxide (GOX) that binds free microorganisms. The adsorption of microorganisms is ensured by modification of the graphene layers with ionic groups. Component 2 consists of a carrier material which is coated with the antimicrobial surface AGXX. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are formed on this component via the Fenton-type reaction with silver, which kill the microorganisms present in the system.

Component 1 consists of functionalized GOX that binds free bacteria (I) and endotoxins to be trapped on the surface of Component 1 (II). The adsorption of bacteria is ensured by modification of the graphene layers with ionic groups. Component 2 consists of a carrier material which is coated with the antimicrobial surface AGXX that forms ROS. ROS completely kill the bacteria present in the environment (III), and subsequently, the cell structure of the bacteria is destroyed (IV).
