Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Systems and Concepts

Level: 1st semester
Credits: 5
Frequency: every fall semester
Status: compulsory

Module aims and trained competencies

  • This introductory module provides fundamental definitions and indicators in the field of energy and resource efficiency. It aims to explore technical and economical tools for the evaluation of systems and projects. Emphasis is placed on physical principles and laws as they are the basis for all the engineering tasks.
  • These fundamentals are valuable and indispensable instruments to be applied during the master program as well as in the professional career of learners.

Content

  • Energy efficiency: definition and measures, energy performance indicators at different levels, benchmark values and application
  • Resource efficiency: definition and performance indicators at different levels, benchmark values and application
  • Sustainability: sustainable use of energy and resources, the use of the carbon footprint
  • Basics of economic instruments: cost definitions and cost splitting, cost systems, financial and accounting ratios
  • Thermodynamics and combustions
  • Principles of electrical engineering
